Jones had a third-period hat trick, his first in the NHL, to lead the Oilers to a 6-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Edmonton was down 2-1 when Jones scored on a wraparound. His one-timer later in the period made it 4-2 for the Oilers. He finished the trick with an empty netter.
No. 2 Star: Ryan O'Reilly, Colorado Avalanche
The Avs forward assisted on Milan Hejduk's ninth of the season to tie the game against the St. Louis Blues. The scored his fourth goal of the season in the third period to tie the game again. In the shootout, "The Factor" (actual nickname) scored the lone goal, on the backhand past Jaroslav Halak (33 saves), to give Colorado its second straight win, 3-2, over the Blues.
No. 3 Star: Claude Giroux, Philadelphia Flyers
Giroux continued this MVP season for the Flyers, assisting on Jaromir Jagr's second-period goal that sparked a rally and then scoring his 14th goal of the season on an overtime power play. Philadelphia topped Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau in his debut, 4-3.
Honorable mention: The Detroit Red Wings scored three first-period goals and cruised to their seventh straight victory, 4-1 at the Buffalo Sabres. Johan Franzen scored his 11; Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and an assist; Jimmy Howard made 27 saves. … Kyle Brodziak scored two goals, including a breakaway tally in the third, as the Minnesota Wild topped the New Jersey Devils, 4-2. Josh Harding made 22 saves in relief of the injured Niklas Backstrom, as the Wild moved back into first overall in the NHL. … Zach Parise, Minnesota native, scored a goal and had an assist against the Wild. … Jonathan Toews scored the lone goal in the shootout to give the Chicago Blackhawks the 5-4 win over the New York Islanders.
