Winger Patrick Bordeleau of the AHL Lake Erie Monsters (Colorado Avalanche affiliate) is 6-foot-6, 225 pounds of enforcer. Against the Rockford Ice Hogs on Friday night, he had former Atlanta Thrashers and Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Garnet Exelby lined up for a big hit.
He missed Exelby. He hit the glass. The glass lost:
Wow. We eagerly await someone re-cutting this video with Stone Cold Steve Austin's theme.
From the Plain Dealer, on the Monsters' 3-2 win:
Midway through the period, Monsters enforcer Patrick Bordeleau blew up a pane of glass in front of the scorer's table while attempting a signature hit. One of numerous pieces cut the head of penalty-time keeper John Davis, who, true to a hockey mentality, exited reluctantly.
Play resumed after a lengthy delay. Bordeleau was at it again less than three minutes later, this time blasting away at a human -- IceHogs center Brandon Bollig. As usual, Bordeleau won the fight.
Please note that this was the annual "Pink The Rink" night for breast cancer awareness, as the ice was tinted and the team wore jerseys with pink accents. Which obviously offered a dainty juxtaposition to the glass-smashing awesomeness.
