9:20 a.m. ET: Darren Dreger of TSN is reporting that Brad Richards will waive his no-trade clause for one team and one team only, on the condition that he previously played for their head coach in Tampa and he looks like the Fonz (one assumes).
9:05 a.m. ET: This is John-Michael Liles, the slightly McConaughey-ish (alright alright alright) puck-moving defenseman for the Colorado Avalanche that's expected to move today despite his no-trade clause.
Where, you ask? Not the Toronto Maple Leafs, according to our pal Craig Custance at The Sporting News:
According to an NHL source, Toronto no longer has an offer on the table for Colorado defenseman John-Michael Liles. Liles would be a solid replacement for Tomas Kaberle if Brian Burke decides to reconsider.
According to the Denver Post, Liles has one of those no-trade clauses that lists teams he won't play for, i.e. for which the Avs would need his permission to execute a trade. Via Adrian Dater:
Because his isn't a total no-trade contract - which has one year at a $4.1 million cap hit left - Liles said: "It's out of my hands now. It's management's decision. But like I've said all along, when the team's not doing well, anything can happen. I want to stay an Av, and I love playing in Colorado. It's why I signed there, but it's out of my control. All I can do is go out there each and every night and play hard."
One team to keep in mind: The Columbus Blue Jackets. Aaron Portzline of the Dispatch reported that the Jackets were a team Liles would have to waive for -- and that he would.
