During the 2008 World Championships gold medal game between Canada and Russia Rick Nash was penalized for a delay of game/puck over the glass call in overtime that led to an Ilya Kovalchuk power play goal that ended the game.

On a much lesser scale on Saturday evening in Helsinki, that same frustrating penalty cost Canada their round robin game against the United States.

After a back-and-forth game that saw the Duncan Keith tie things at 4-4 with 1:39 left in the third period, John Tavares ended up batted a puck out of play in the Canadians' zone with 1.1 seconds left to give the U.S. a power play in overtime.

In the extra frame, Jack Johnson needed just 1:47 to score his second power play goal of the game and give the Americans their first win over Canada at the Worlds since 2001:

The U.S. is now 1-1-0-0 (W, OTW, OTL, L) and faces Slovakia Monday in Helsinki. Canada (1-0-1-0) will meet France on Monday.

After the game, via Chris Johnston of the Canadian Press, Johnson spoke of bragging rights with the victory, but also added that he anticipates seeing the Canadians again later in the tournament.
