Late in the second period of Saturday night's Game 1 between the Los Angeles Kings and St. Louis Blues the Western Conference's No. 2 seed saw their stud blueliner leave the game after this boarding penalty by Dwight King:

King was given two minutes for boarding, but Matt Greene would end up scoring shorthanded for Los Angeles 10 seconds later to take a 2-1 lead and. Pietrangelo left the game and did not return. Blues Head Coach Ken Hithcock would only say after the game that Pietrangelo would be evaluated on Sunday.

Dustin Penner would add an empty-netter as the Kings were victorious 3-1.

Is a Shanaban in order here? That might depend on the severity of the injury, if any, on Pietrangelo. It was a bad shove from behind and a few feet from the boards, but wasn't overly vicious and King has no history. Should the Blues defenseman be okay, King might just be $2,500 lighter in the wallet and given a warning. If Petrangelo is indeed hurt, then Kings forward might sit for a game.

UPDATE: Via Jeremy Rutherford of the Post-Dispatch, a pool reporter in St. Louis spoke with series supervisor Kay Whitmore to get an explanation of the lack of a major call on the play.
