Here are your Puck Headlines: a glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.
• Steve Politi goes rip city on Florida Panthers president Michael Yormark for his trolling of New Jersey Devils fans on Twitter, thus continuing the postseason long trend of expecting teams to somehow be above the bilious rancor and snark that make the Stanley Cup Playoffs so much fun. But Yormark better start being nice, or else all the rat-chucking Devils fan sleeper agents that gave his team its first official sellout in Game 5 won't come back for Game 7. (Perhaps the biggest surprise in this whole controversy: Yormark has yet to find a title sponsor for his sarcasm.) [NJ.com]
• Patrice Bergeron will play in Game 7. [Bruins Blog]
• Brad Marchand dives into the controversy over his embellishment, specifically on that Jason Chimera play that led to a Capitals goal: "You don't see the guy coming and you get clipped," Marchand said. "For them to judge what knocks you down, they don't know your balance or whatnot on the play. They're sitting at home watching on TV. I don't really care what they say. They have no impact on my game, my life. They mean nothing." [ESPN Boston]
• Boston Bruins vs. Washington Capitals Game 6 marked a 15-year ratings high for the NHL. [Puck The Media]
• Nicklas Lidstrom said Barry Trotz told him "please don't retire"; on the Detroit Red Wings' Game 5 loss, the captain said: "I haven't had the feeling that this is it." [Malik]
• A gloriously odd disclaimer from the Edmonton Oilers: "You may have heard about a contest that is currently being run across Canada promoting the chance to win 'hockey tickets for life' to a Canadian hockey team's games. We want our fans to know that neither the Edmonton Oilers nor the NHL have an affiliation with that promotion, and the Edmonton Oilers can offer no assurances to our fans that the desired tickets will be available to the winner." [Oilers, and based on this contest]
• Watch goalie Mark Visentin score a goal in the OHL. [Buzzing The Net]
• So much for "hey, whatever's best for the team" … Alex Ovechkin is angry over his lack of ice time in the third. Somewhere, Bruce Boudreau eats. [AP]
• John Tortorella ducks Chris Neil questions, and says about the New York Rangers win in Game 6: "Our team has responded all year long. A lot of our game, throughout the series, has been very good. We just hadn't found a way to make a big play at a key time. Last night, in the second period, we did. This group of guys has just gone about our business, and that's the way we'll approach Game 7." [NYT]
• Rudy Kelly's not buying what Hitchcock is selling. [Battle of Cali]
• Nice feature on David Poile and Barry Trotz trying to bring the first Cup to Nashville, as the franchise's only GM and coach. [CP]
• Jiri Tlusty resigns with the Carolina Hurricanes. [N&O]
• Nucks Misconduct with the Mike Gillis press conference highlights. [NM]
• LA Kings governor Tim Leiweke declined to comment on whether any management changes would have happened if the Kings had missed the playoffs. [LA Kings Insider]
• Breaking down the stats between the Phoenix Coyotes and Nashville Predators, which we're still trying to conceive as a second-round series. [On the Forecheck]
• John Fontana with an interesting piece on NHL discipline: "In matters of league discipline, the weight of the games are more important than enforcing the rules." [Raw Charge]
• Finally, here's Karri Ramo appearing to Walker Texas Ranger the puck away by kicking it with his skate in a KHL Finals game. Watch the last replay to really see what was a cool save from a guy who previously gave up a rink-length goal or got beat below the goal line in a playoff game or surrendered perhaps the worst own-goal of 2012.
