It's subtle, but if you look hard enough at the following clip you might detect San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns giving Scott Nichol of the St. Louis Blues an elbow to the back of the head.
Nichol, a former Shark, didn't appear injured on the play and had regular shifts through the third period. Burns was given two minutes for roughing, but the NHL's Dept. of Player Safety is looking at this one — as well as this Carl Hagelin hit on Daniel Alfredsson.
In the regular season, Burns wasn't fined or suspended for anything. His last run-in with the NHL was in Nov. 2010, when he butt-ended Steve Bernier while with the Minnesota Wild and received two games.
Considering there apparently wasn't an injury, what should Burns receive in supplemental discipline — if anything?
