About eight minutes into overtime of Game 1 between the Chicago Blackhawks and Phoenix Coyotes, center Martin Hanzal had the game on his stick for the home team but fired wide on Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford.
Less than two minutes later, he found redemption: Scoring the OT game winner at 9:29 of the extra session, a tip-in from an Adrian Aucoin point shot. Here's how the CSN Chicago crew broke down the goal that gave the Coyotes a 3-2 win:
Even though the Coyotes allowed Chicago to tie the game with 14.2 seconds left in regulation, on a Brent Seabrook goal, this was an impressive effort from Phoenix. Goalie Mike Smith seemed impenetrable at times, stopping 43 shots. They won the faceoff battle and stymied the Blackhawks' power play. Most of all, they managed three goals despite losing leading scorer Radim Vrbata to an unspecified injury — he played only 30 seconds in the game.
The Blackhawks saw Jonathan Toews return from a concussion, open the scoring just 4:04 into the game and later assist on the game-tying goal, playing 24:29. But it wasn't enough, as the 'Yotes took Game 1 in dramatic fashion.
Even if they got a huge break prior to one of their tallies:
