The Philadelphia Flyers were played out of the arena during the first 20 minutes of Game 1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night. The Pens scored three goals, the worst nightmares about Ilya Bryzgalov as a playoff goalie were being confirmed and it was looking like a 1-0 series deficit for Philly.
Then they rallied for three goals; and then Jakub Voracek did this, unassisted at 2:23 of overtime, to win Game 1 in Pittsburgh, 4-3:
After first-period goals by Sidney Crosby, Tyler Kennedy and Pascal Dupuis in the first period, Danny Briere scored a controversial goal at 6:22 of the second period — on a clear offside call. Briere scored again at 9:17 of the third, and then Brayden Schenn scored a power-play goal at 12:23 for the tie.
Say this for Bryzgalov: After Coach Peter Laviolette left him in following the 3-goal first, he was strong in the second and stopped all 15 shots he faced for the rest of the game. One game does not a series make, but Bryzgalov needed that statement after getting lit up in the first 20.
Maybe there will be fewer bears in Consol next game …
