The Detroit Red Wings picked up valuable points in their quest for home ice in the Western Conference quarterfinals Sunday, moving a point ahead of Nashville and two points ahead of Chicago with a 2-1 win at home versus the Florida Panthers. But the win may have come with a loss: Kyle Quincey may be missing some time.
Only moments after his team had tied the game 1-1, Quincey picked up a major penalty for elbowing and a game misconduct for this hit on Tomas Kopecky.
The officials deemed it worthy of 15 minutes in discipline; will the Shana-vengers deem it worthy of more?
It will help Quincey's case that he's not a repeat offender and that Kopecky wasn't injured on the play, but it won't help Quincey's case that the play was an elbow to the head on which he left his feet. Flying headshots are, to the best of my recollection, suspendable.
I suspect that Shanahan will likely remind Quincey of that very fact, especially since, with the postseason less than two weeks away, it will also be a good opportunity to remind everyone else. I'm saying the Red Wings D-man gets two games. What say you?
