Last night, Alex Ovechkin tweeted a photo in which the Washington Capitals star had his arm around First Lady Michelle Obama at a random D.C. area eatery (s/t NBC Washington).
This is, perhaps, the most historic U.S./Russia summit since the one in Reykjavík that eventually resulted in the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty between the United States and the Soviet Union. Or since Bill Clinton and that vodka luge filled with Smirnoff back in '98.
So, for the record, the White House has now hosted two different Stanley Cup champions and the First Lady had been photographed with the local team captain … but President Obama has yet to appear at a Washington Capitals game. Hopefully Ovi did some quality lobbying so we can finally see the First Man Barack the Red.
Ah, but that wasn't the only dignitary Ovechkin was photographed with last night …
… OK, it actually was, but this image was ripe for Photoshopping, so …
… witness Alex Ovechkin with:
President of France Nicolas Sarkozy and wife Carla Bruni, who had to be told after the meeting that Ovechkin kept uttering the Russian phrase for, "C'mon, ditch that guy, I have a murdered-out ride."
His Majesty King Jaffe—Joffe of Zamunda met Ovechkin while searching for his son at a barbershop and then a local fast food establishment. Following the photo, Ovechkin had it written into his contract with IMG to have someone from their athlete relations department always walking in front of him dropping rose petals on the ground. And also to have his stick cleaned, er, professionally.
The Ghost of Richard Nixon, who spoke for 25 minutes straight about how "that Campbell fella with the National Hockey League" should have burned his emails.
President Skroob from the planet Spaceball, who refused to share his Perri-Air with Ovechkin before departing in a gigantic spaceship shaped like a maid.
And finally …
Here's Ovechkin with President Obama … OK, well, it was supposed to be Obama, who instead was watching an NBA game down at the other corner of the bar and responded to every inquiry about Ovechkin with, "Tell him I'll be happy to take a picture when Medvedev stops being a jackass about Libya."
