1:53 p.m. EST -- Another deal on the horizon? Bob McKenzie Tweets that the San Jose Sharks are close to acquiring Daniel Winnik from the Colorado Avalanche.
1:45 p.m. EST -- The Buffalo Sabres, among almost everyone else, have been quiet today, despite rumors of a number of players, including Derek Roy, being on the block. Goaltender Ryan Miller doesn't want to see a big overhaul to the roster despite the poor season. From the Buffalo News:
"I don't think we scrap an entire project. I think the fans have to realize that sets you back years. What we're looking for is the right tweaks and the right adjustments. That doesn't come from just throwing everybody out the window."
Meanwhile, in a minor move the Toronto Maple Leafs have dealt defenseman Keith Aulie to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Carter Ashton. Aulie, you'll remember, was part of the deal that brought Dion Phaneuf to Toronto. And thus begins Ashton's quest to be traded as many times in his career as his dad, Brent.
1:16 p.m. EST -- From Mike Russo, Minnesota Wild's Cal Clutterbuck on Nick Schultz, the franchise's all-time leader in games played, being dealt to Edmonton:
"It's shocking," Clutterbuck said, having trouble getting out words. "He's what this organization is all about. Has been for 10 years."
Bob McKenzie says on TSN that the Carolina Hurricanes are prepared to hang on to pending UFA defenseman Bryan Allen, while Pierre LeBrun reports that Jaroslav Spacek is expected to be dealt soon.
1:09 p.m. EST -- According to the Winnipeg Free Press, Johnny Oduya has been linked to the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks as we're now under two hours left until the deadline. Does the Jets' waiver claim of Grant Clitsome effectively end Oduya's time in Winnipeg?
Red Wings GM Ken Holland told TSN that defenseman Brendan Smith will be recalled for tomorrow night's game in Columbus.
Yup, it's slow out there.
1:00 p.m. EST -- As Evgeni Nabokov and Garth Snow continue negotiating an extension, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports that the Islanders are shopping Al Montoya, paving the way for Kevin Poulin to grab the No. 2 job for the rest of the season.
