Flyers add another defenseman by acquiring Pavel Kubina from Lightning

It may not be Rick Nash, but the Philadelphia Flyers are stockpiling defensemen ahead of the NHL trade deadline in nine days.

Two days after acquiring Nicklas Grossman from the Dallas Stars for two draft picks, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren was at it again this time picking up pending UFA Pavel Kubina from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a conditional second rounder (2012 or 2013) and a 2013 fourth round draft pick, per ESPN's Pierre LeBrun.

The deal is pending league approval.

The Flyers are currently over the 50 contract limit, so another roster move has to happen, either a demotion or putting someone on long-term injury reserve.

Kubina hasn't played since Tuesday after Tampa GM Steve Yzerman announce he would be a seller, with the 34-year old defenseman one of the assets on the move as soon as he submitted a list of five teams he would accept a deal to. The Flyers don't play again until Tuesday night in Winnipeg.

So Philadelphia has lost six of eight and Ilya Bryzgalov is "just trying to find peace in my soul to play in this city". Goaltending is once an issue with the Flyers. Are the acquisitions of Grossman and Kubina (and maybe others) enough to right the ship?
