ECHL line brawl: 278 PIMs, mask-on goalie fight, hysterical announcer (Video)

In blowout games things sometimes devolve into mayhem and that's what happened on Saturday night in the ECHL between the Bakersfield Condors and Ontario Reign.

With the score 5-1 late in the third period, Bakersfield's Ian McKenzie laid a hit on Ontario's Kevin Estrada -- one that really reminds you of the infamous Steve Downie on Dean McAmmond hit from 2007 -- and that's when things kicked off, which eventually gives us a goalie fight.

"It's hysteria! Cats and dogs living together!"

We love minor league play-by-play guys. They truly know how to sell a line brawl.

The end of the brawl didn't mean that the bad blood was over with. Just 34 seconds after that another fight broke out; then with five seconds remaining in the game three more bouts happened.

After the game and unhappy with what transpired on the ice, Bakersfield head coach Matt O'Dette called out the Reign to Mike Griffith of Bakersfield.com:

"Their team flops around the ice and dives and they don't answer the bell at all when they get called out on the carpet. That type of stuff boils over but that's hockey."

As Griffith noted, exactly a year ago Saturday the Condors set their own penalty minute mark with 254 during a brawl with the Alaska Aces, one that took place after the final buzzer.

In the end, both teams combined for a combined Condors record of 278 PIMs and the Reign would end up 5-1 victors over the cellar-dwelling Condors and move into third place in the Western Conference.
