No. 1 Star: Daniel Sedin, Vancouver Canucks
The NHL's leading scorer crossed the 40-goal mark for the first time in his career, scoring both goals in the Canucks' 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at the Joe. He scored an even-strength goal off of Nicklas Lidstrom's skate in the second period and then a power-play goal in the third; Henrik Sedin had the primary assist on both. He nearly had a hat trick, but his late third-period shot hit the pipe behind Jimmy Howard.
No. 2 Star: Patrick Marleau, San Jose Sharks
The Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks were tied 2-2 after a wild first 14 minutes of the game. Then it was Marleau's turn to take over: Scoring at 14:59 and then at 17:33, on the power play, to give San Jose a 2-goal lead it wouldn't surrender in a 6-3 victory. Marleau led all Sharks forwards with 19:48 TOI.
No. 3 Star: Cam Fowler, Anaheim Ducks
Every point counts in the West, and the Ducks snagged two huge points in a 4-3 win at the Dallas Stars. Teemu Selanne scored the tying goal with 5.4 seconds left in regulation, and then Fowler scored this game-winner 1:42 into OT. It was Fowler's first goal since Feb. 11:
Honorable mention: Corey Crawford made 23 saves, not many of them difficult, for his fourth shutout of the season in the Chicago Blackhawks' 4-0 victory over the Florida Panthers. Brent Seabrook and Patrick Kane both had a goal and an assist, while Duncan Keith and Jonathan Toews both had two assists. … Roberto Luongo made 39 saves in the Canucks' win, while Jimmy Howard made 31 for the Wings. … Torrey Mitchell also scored twice for San Jose, while Logan Couture scored his 28th. Andrew Desjardins scored his first career goal. … Corey Perry scored goal No. 40 for the Ducks, while Loui Eriksson scored his 24th in his return to the Dallas lineup. … Finally, we applaud this kid at the Red Wings game who took an extra lap following the pregame fanfare. Selfish? Sure. Awesome? Completely:
Did you know? Four of Teemu Selanne's last eight goals have been of the game-tying variety, with each coming with at least 2:07 left in the 3rd period. The Ducks won each of these games. (Via Leahy)
Dishonorable mention: Terrible job by the Stars in front of their own net, giving up Selanne's goal with 5.4 seconds remaining. Insult to injury was allowing the Ducks to take another point on the road in OT, as the Stars slip one point behind Anaheim in the standings. … The Flames have six losses in their last seven games, trailing Anaheim by two points but having played three more games than the Ducks.
