No. 1 Star: Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings
The Kings goalie made 27 saves, including four in overtime, as Los Angeles outlasted the Calgary Flames, 2-1, in the shootout. Quick moved to a stellar 8-0 in shootouts this season.
No. 2 Star: Pascal Dupuis, Pittsburgh Penguins
With due respect to James Neal, who won the game for the Penguins in the shootout, Dupuis gave exactly the kind of effort a banged-up team needs to win on the road. He scored the first goal against the Detroit Red Wings and then assisted on Chris Kunitz's goal 4:03 later for a 2-0 advantage. In the second period, he scored a shorthanded goal for a 3-0 lead. The Pens would build a 4-0 lead and blow it before winning in the skills competition, 5-4. Dupuis finished as a plus-3.
No. 3 Star: Valtteri Filppula, Detroit Red Wings
The Wings center helped rally Detroit with a third-period goal and the primary assist on Mike Modano's game-tying power-play goal. He was also 10-5 on faceoffs.
Honorable mention: Jarret Stoll scored in regulation and the shootout, while Anze Koptiar had the game-deciding goal in the skills competition for the Kings. Olli Jokinen answered Stoll's goal in the third period to help earn a charity point for Calgary. … Detroit rallied without Pavel Datsyuk, Johan Franzen and Jiri Hudler, who all missed the game with injuries. … Miikka Kiprusoff was strong with 26 saves for the Flames. … The Kings extended their penalty kill streak to 35 by snuffing out six Calgary power plays. ... Brent Johnson made 37 saves and three more in the shootout for Pittsburgh.
Did you know? Modano scored his first goal since Nov. 3.
Dishonorable mention: Jimmy Howard was chased by the Penguins after giving up four goals on 15 shots. Joey MacDonald was 10-for-10 as his replacement. … The Kings took a too many men on the ice penalty in overtime, but killed off the Flames power play.
