No. 1 Star: Matt Moulson, New York Islanders
Moulson had seven shots in the Islanders' 5-4 win over the Dallas Stars. He scored on four of them. It was the third hat trick of his NHL career and his first ever 4-goal game. John Tavares added three assists.
No. 2 Star: Matt Read, Philadelphia Flyers
Read opened the scoring four minutes into the Flyers' tilt with the Phoenix Coyotes on an unassisted powerplay goal. He would add two helpers before the period ended with the Flyers on top by four. Philly would hold onto that lead, winning 4-2.
No. 3 Star: Jarome Iginla, Calgary Flames
After going down by 2 goals in the first 3 minutes Saturday night versus the Edmonton Oilers, Jarome Iginla helped the Flames immediately answer back, setting up the first of two goals they would score in the three minutes immediately following. Iginla would finish with 3 assists in the Flames' 5-3 win. Olli Jokinen scored twice.
Honourable mention: Brooks Laich scored the overtime winner and Dale Hunter got his first NHL win as Washington Capitals edged the Ottawa Senators 3-2... Andrei Kostitsyn had a goal and an assist in the Montreal Canadiens' 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings' lone goal was Dustin Penner's first of the year... Marian Hossa scored twice in the Chicago Blackhawks' 5-2 rout of the St. Louis Blues, but the bigger story was David Perron pullin' a Crosby and roofing one in his first game back after missing a year with a concussion:
Derek Stepan potted the game-winner to go with an assist as the New York Rangers doubled up on the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-2... Craig Adams had a goal and an assist as the Pittsburgh Penguins held on to top the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-2. Jamie McBain scored twice for the Canes, and Jussi Jokinen came within a toe of tying the game up in the dying seconds. Check out Brent Johnson's insane save:
... Evander Kane opened and closed the scoring as the Winnipeg Jets topped the New Jersey Devils 4-2... Ryan Miller made 32 saves in his first game back from concussion and Luke Adam had a goal and an assist as the Buffalo Sabres held on to beat the Nashville Predators, 3-2... David Krejci registered a goal and an assist as the Bruins beat up on the Toronto Maple Leafs yet again in a 4-1 win... Tomas Fleischmann had a goal and two assists as the Panthers got past the San Jose Sharks, 5-3. Logan Couture scored twice in the loss.
Did you know? Jordan Staal left the game in Carolina after taking a puck just under the eye. There was a lot of blood -- scary for everyone in the audience, including his parents --but he was apparently okay.
Dishonourable mention: Ilya Kovalchuk on Winnipeg fans booing him: "They should support me, maybe I'm one of the reasons they moved here."
