What you're about to see in the following clip is Jesse Enns of the Swan Valley Stampeders skating at full speed across the rink in order to crush Portage Terriers defenseman Tyler Harland into the boards head-first … with three seconds left in a Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoff game.
Then, just when you think you've seen it all, an assistant coach fights a goalie coach on the bench. Just nuts:
Harland went to the dressing room under his own power, rather miraculously considering the hit.
The MJHL responded to this melee on Wednesday with a combined $4,000 in fines to the teams and a total of 86 games in suspensions:
Stampeders' Jesse Enns has been given a 40-game suspension for receiving a Match Penalty for checking from behind with three seconds to go in the game on March 12 in Swan River. Assistant coaches Dallas Anderson (Swan Valley) and Jim Tkachyk (Portage Terriers) have both been given 22-game suspensions each for their participation in the post-game incident which took place after the Terriers had eliminated the Stampeders in their Sher-Wood Division playoff series.
Both assistant coaches were also fined $1,500 apiece. Stampeders' Head coach Dwayne Kirkup also received a two-game suspension and $1,000 fine for receiving a Gross Misconduct Penalty, and not having proper control of the players on the bench.
No kidding. According to QMI, the fact that the incident was uploaded to YouTube helped MJHL commissioner Kim Davis make his decisions on the suspensions. And here we thought it was just for news bloopers and covers of terrible pop songs.
