Video: Brad Marchand’s blindside hit irritates R.J. Umberger

Looks like Colin Campbell might have another opportunity to recuse himself. This blindside hit by Brad Marchand of the Boston Bruins on R.J. Umberger of the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night should warrant consideration for supplemental discipline by the NHL, even if it didn't earn a penalty during the game:

Umberger spoke about the hit after the Bruins' 3-2 shootout victory, via Puck-Rakers:

Jackets forward R.J. Umberger was not pleased after catching an elbow in the back of the noggin from Bruins forward Brad Marchand. The play happened at center ice and was not detected by officials.

"I haven't seen it, but I've heard he might have left his feet with an elbow," Umberger said. "That's what it felt like . . . You got to think that's one of the hits we are trying to eliminate whether it's inadvertent or not."

Again, just because there's no penalty on a play doesn't mean there can't be a suspension. And if there is a suspension, it will come down from NHL VP Mike Murphy and not Colin Campbell, because there's no telling if he ever referred to Umberger as a "little fake artist" in an email his son Gregory is on the Bruins.

What say you? Suspension worthy? It seems to fit within the parameters of Rule 48.

Stick-tap to Ryan Real for the clip.
