• "At my age [39], it doesn't matter if I score," said Jaromir Jagr well after he signed a free agent contract under the auspices of being a goal scorer. [CSN Philly]

• The San Jose Sharks are 1-3, and Coach Todd McLellan offered this frank assessment: "Mistakes — and some real dumb mistakes — that led to the other team's goals and then at the other end, a ton of chances that didn't go in. Which end of the rope are we going to fix? In my opinion, it's the dumb mistakes, the errors. I think the offense will take care of itself." Dany Heatley has three points in five games for the Wild. FYI. [Working The Corners]

Joe Thornton: "Hopefully it gets out of the way now, and we start scoring in bunches because we definitely have the firepower to do it. It's just not going in for whatever reason, we just have to keep working and getting forty-plus shots and we'll get four or five goals a game." [Fear The Fin]

• Chris Botta got a sneak peak at HBO Real Sports' segment on hockey fighting and brain injuries that airs tonight: "The piece does not answer the question whether the deaths of Derek Boogaard, Rick Rypien and Wade Belak were directly connected to their roles as fighters. N.H.L. Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly tells the reporter, Bernard Goldberg, there is no concrete medical evidence that proves there is a link." [NYT]

• No Michael Cammalleri yet for the Montreal Canadiens, who also are getting "puzzling" news on the Andrei Markov front. [Hockey Inside/Out]

Ryan Kesler's back for the Vancouver Canucks, so Cody Hodgson shifts to the wing. [YCN]

Adam McQuaid is a game-time decision for the Boston Bruins, that decision being what his next self-inflicted injury will be. [Bruins Blog]

• DGB with the hockey fan's guide to the World Series. "World Series: For the second straight year, the Texas Rangers have won their first two playoff rounds under the leadership of popular manager Ron Washington./NHL: Nobody with 'Washington' on their jersey ever wins two playoff rounds in the same season." [DGB]

• Bob McKenzie reports that the Phoenix Coyotes ownership saga could come to a head in 2012, with the NHL either supporting San Jose Sharks president Greg Jamison's group or Jerry Reinsdorf's group. Glendale's always had a hard-on for Reinsdorf; he's asked for an out-clause in the past. [TSN]

• Didja hear the one where Bruce Boudreau dropped a bunch of F-bombs and Kevin Dineen called him fat? [Washington Times]

• The Chief chimes in on the Detroit Red Wings and realignment: "If it's as simple as swapping Winnipeg with the Wings, putting us in with Ovechkin and the three expansion sisters?  Great. Do it.  But you just know it can't be that easy.  Not when you've got the backbiters in Dallas and Denver and LA whining about losing all that Winged Wheel cash." [A2Y]

• "The Mule's Role." Sadly, this article is about Johan Franzen and not about swallowing condoms full of narcotics before boarding a plane to the U.S. [NHL Hot Stove]

• The Columbus Blue Jackets place Jeff Carter on injured reserve. [Jackets]

• The latest on the Jackets' arena vote. [The Cannon]

Jack Johnson believes Mike Richards is a laid back guy: "Hockey wise, we didn't learn too much new about him - because we already knew. On his personality though - he's a real laid back, easy going guy, easy to get along with and he likes having fun." What, no love for his dry island sense of humor? [Mayors Manor]

• An actual tweet sent by Chuck D. of Public Enemy. [MrChuckD, via Costa Tsiokos]

Sergei Bobrovsky gets his first start of the season tonight for the Philadelphia Flyers. [Broad Street Bull]

• The Black Dog is digging the Edmonton Oilers so far: "It's early, its oh so early, but despite Whitney and Gagner not playing a game and Hemsky only playing just over one, this club has outchanced their opposition in three games so far. For the most part the defensive zone fire drills have been few and far between. Renney has been linematching which has helped a ton. Last night the kids did not get a defensive zone faceoff all night, that heavy lifting went to Horcoff, Smyth and Jones." [BDHS]

• Everything you wanted to know about the problematic pairing of Duncan Keith and Nick Leddy but were afraid to ask. [Blackhawk Up]

• Is PK Subban feeling the heat in Montreal for his defensive lapses? [Pro Hockey Talk]

Jerred Smithson of the Nashville Predators is our new personal hero for his candor: "Just embarrassing. We just got out-worked. It was right from the drop of the puck. If it wasn't for Peks it could have been 5-1. It seems like I've been saying that every time now, but it's the honest truth, we rely on this guy way too much. We don't work, we don't skate, we don't forecheck, we have a hardworking team that doesn't work hard and I don't know, it's beyond frustrating right now. I've never been a part of something like this. It's gotta change right now, or we're going to be on the outside looking in — December we'll be out of this, we have to change it right now." [Predators Insider]

• There's a silver lining for Marty Brodeur's injury for the New Jersey Devils, apparently. [Puck Update]

• Someone did not learn the lessons of Mike McKenna. [Hockey Spoken Here]

• Comcast SportsNet New England talks to Knuckles Nilan on Ustream. Holy smokes the accents here are amazing. [Ustream]

• Was considering picking up Mark Scheifele for the Puck Daddy fantasy team. Now, reconsidering. [Buzzing The Net]

• An open letter to the Tampa Bay Lightning, on the occasion of their early season struggles. To Steven Stamkos: "You wanted more of a leadership role on this team, so take more of a leadership role. This isn't something that's handed to you or something you ease into; it's something where you assert yourself and just take it. And I'm not talking about goal scoring, either; although that certainly wouldn't hurt." [Raw Charge]

• Finally, we love fan's eye view videos, and here's one that covers the Tampa Bay Lightning's opening ceremonies that included a flag being passed around the arena and a tribute to Dan Wheldon. New organ sounds nice.
