For 135 years, the Harvard Lampoon has been publishing a humor magazine at Harvard University and furthering the comedy careers of such notable names like Conan O'Brien, Jim Downey, Andy Borowitz, and B.J. Novak.
The Lampoon also honors groups and individuals every year for their accomplishments. Who could forget when Randy "Macho Man" Savage (R.I.P) was named their "Man of the Year" in 1998?
On Sunday, the Boston Bruins were named the Harvard Square Business Association and The Lampoon's "Best Sports Team Ever". Okay, they might be a little biased given Harvard's close proximity to TD Garden, but it's just another trophy to add the overflowing mantle of the Bruins over the last six month.
On hand were Johnny Boychuk, Andrew Ference, Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand, Tyler Seguin, and Shawn Thornton for the ceremony in front of 400 students in Brattle Square after a brief parade down Massachusetts Avenue.
The players also savaged members of The Lampoon in a game of dodgeball before taking part in separate comedy skits such as Boychuk and Marchand reading diary entries; Ference reading a letter to the students from team captain Zdeno Chara; Thornton and Lucic engaging in a verbal conflict resolution clinic (which, after this ups the comedy value); and to top it all off, Seguin's surprise "retirement" to enroll at Harvard and study Romantic French Poetry:
We imagine Seguin's post-"retirement" party Sunday night was just a tad toned down from the one celebrating his day with the Stanley Cup.
