Here are your Puck Headlines: a glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.
• The Los Angeles Kings played the Hamburg Freezers today and rocked the numbers on the front of the lid. Thoughts? (s/t Tom Gelston)
• The TSN top 50 players list is out again. Sidney Crosby is No. 1. Daniel Sedin > Henrik Sedin. Zdeno Chara is the highest ranked defenseman. Tim Thomas the highest ranked goalie. Jeff Skinner, who gets the Puck Daddy Q&A treatment on Wednesday, is No. 50. [TSN]
• The British Columbia government wants to televise trials of suspected rioters from after Game 7 in Vancouver, blissfully unaware that all of the televisions in the city were either looted or burned back in June. [CP]
• The Canucks swapped out their Oreskovich for a Weise. (This sounds like a hockey headline written by Tolkien.) [The Province]
• When asked about being placed on waivers, Sean Avery had nothing to say. For the first time in his adult life. [NYDN]
• Putting to rest conspiracy theories about the Rangers and their 41 home games despite opening in Europe. [The Record]
• Gary Bettman on the NHL's summer tragedies and how they relate to fighting: "It's something that always gets discussed. I think those who have historically been against fighting try to paint these individuals' different situations with a broad brush. And I'm not sure that that's a valid assumption." [THN]
• The Boston Bruins still have roster decisions to make, including whether Chris Clark will be given a contract. [Bruins Blog]
• The Calgary Flames were ready to anoint Mikael Backlund as their No. 1 center at the start of the season. His broken pinky finger had other ideas. Six weeks on the shelf. Ouch. [Calgary Herald]
• A bit of news about Shane Doan, in the last year of his deal, GM Don Maloney and the Phoenix Coyotes: "Maloney contacted Doan in August and requested a meeting. He wanted to find out where Doan stood and to reinforce the Coyotes' commitment to keeping him for the rest of his career. During the meeting, both agreed to hold off negotiations until there is clarity on the ownership situation. If that comes, Doan would likely sign an extension for three or four years, starting after this season." [AZ Republic]

• Bourne on whether Winnipeg Jets fans should still rock the white out for a team wearing blue jerseys. [Backhand Shelf]
• The official beer can of the Winnipeg Jets. Oh, thank god it's not Coors; the military jets combined with silver bullets would have inspired a hippie sit-in at MTS. (via @sagasal)
• Mark Scheifele will wear No. 55 for the Winnipeg Jets. From a legacy standpoint, no Thrasher wore it before and the likes of Arto Blomsten and Jason Doig wore it with those other Jets. [QMI]
• Looking at the Nashville Predators waiver picture, with Kyle Wilson passing through and Jack Hillen and Zack Stortini looking good for the opening night roster. [On The Forecheck]
• Defenseman Mattias Ohlund has been placed on injured reserve by the Tampa Bay Lightning for his continuing knee issues. [Raw Charge]
• On the return of Jaromir Jagr with the Philadelphia Flyers: "It probably boils down to the original reasons for comeback. He wants to show himself and the world that he has it in him to be the Jagr that people recall from his glory days. Obviously he can't be that Jagr, but succeeding in the world's best hockey league at his age would help seal a legacy. Sometimes, wanting to prove one's self can be misconstrued as an effort in personal publicity. For all intents and purposes, that ego-driven train of thought looks to be taking a backseat in Philadelphia." [The Checking Line]
• Why Jeff Carter and Mike Richards were "really" traded. [Broad Street Buzz]
• The Flyers waiver Blair Betts, Matt Walker and Oskars Bartulis. Betts will be snatched up in a heartbeat you'd figure. [Frequent Flyers]
Paul Stastny and David Jones and ... Chuck Kobasew? [Denver Post]
• Brad Winchester took a punch, got a contract. That's the San Jose way. [CSN Bay Area]
• Stan Bowman gets extended through 2016 by the Chicago Blackhawks. [Blackhawks]
• Facing an October 7 deadline, Bowling Green has decided to accept an invitation to join the WCHA in 2013-14. Alas, Alabama-Huntsville remains out in the cold. [CHN]
• Looking at VERSUS' ratings entering the new NHL season. [The Paranoid Puck]
• Jari Kurri on Teemu Selanne: "The guy's got some unusual, super-fast cells in his muscles." DUDE LIKE WOLVERINE. [NHL.com]
• Joe Nieuwendyk on Vernon Fiddler: "He's a guy that really is a meat-and-potatoes guy that is a player that you win with." Just once we'd like to hear a GM call someone "truffles and foie gras" player. [Stars]
• Finally, coolness from the Buffalo Sabres, as Jason Pominvile uses a Flip cam on the team bus [via The Sabres Observer]:
