Brad Marchand confirms his Stanley Cup tattoo wasn’t spell-checked

When the Boston Bruins celebrated their 2011 Stanley Cup championship with a $156,000 bar tab and half-naked dancing at a Foxwoods casino club, it was our first glimpse at the fresh ink commemorating the Cup on players like rookie Brad Marchand:

Brad Marchand confirms his Stanley Cup tattoo wasn’t spell-checked

However, there was always something curious about Marchand's tattoo. Like the way "Stanley" nearly looked like "Starley"; and the way "champions" sure did resemble "champians."

Did the artist forget to run spell-check on Brad Marchand's ink? The answer, spelled correctly: Y-E-S.

Marchand confirmed there was a gaffe made on his Stanley Cup tattoo, in his recent "diary" for ESPN Boston:

Let me clear something up. After we won, a bunch of us got tattoos here in the dressing room of the Garden. Mine originally was misspelled. Instead of saying Stanley Cup Champions it said Stanley Cup Champians. I don't even know how that happened. After I got it, I came in the room and someone was like it says champians ... with an a.

So I went back and the tattoo guy fixed it after that. It's fixed now. It never said Starley either, not sure how that rumor got started. It's Stanley. They obviously knew how to spell Stanley Cup. The only thing that was wrong with it was an a and he turned it into an o for champions.

That's what you get for going to a tattoo "parler."

But these things happen. Arizona State quarterback Brock Osweiler, for example, had a tattoo on his arm reading "Live Life to it's Fullest," superfluous apostrophe and all.

Glad Marchand got that corrected. Now all he'll have to worry about is (a) adding additional dates for additional Bruins Cup wins or (b) the awkward decision on how to commemorate a Stanley Cup he wins with another team or (c) when he's 50 years old and the torso tattoo he got at 23 looks like banner advertising being dragged by an airplane at the beach.

Via The Sports Guy, who is still letting hockey back into his bloodstream.
