Fans of the Buffalo Sabres have plenty to be excited about this season. With new owner Terry Pegula willing to spend some serious coin, GM Darcy Regier has been able to make improvements everywhere, such as the acquisitions of Christian Ehrhoff and Robyn Regehr on the backend, and Ville Leino up front.
Plus, it looks like Buffalo will also be getting a healthy and fit Drew Stafford, who has been working out really hard to get ready for the upcoming season. See for yourself:
In the video above, Stafford details his offseason workout, a regimen that includes rollerblading on astroturf, cat scratches, one-handed chin-ups, The Flash pushups (of which Stafford manages about 4 per second), and plenty of work "with the wiggly bands," which Stafford raves, "really put me over the edge."
But oh, what I would have given to see footage of his shake-weight phase.
That unfortunate omission aside, there are some inspired touches here, such as Stafford's workout song choice (All 4 One's "I Swear"), directorial flourishes such as the Darren Aronofsky-esque first-person shakycam, and the presence of Yakub, who "might actually kill you" if you tell him to leave (aka the Lindy Ruff approach).
According to the Sabres' manager of new media Kevin Snow, who brought this brilliant video to our attention, "The concept was all Drew's, and I think you'll enjoy it."
Indeed we do.
