ST. PAUL — Dave Nonis, Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke's right-hand man, said the Leafs had a lot of "oars in the water" for trades at the start of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Brian Burke said the Leafs still had some "irons in the fire" after the draft, in which the Leafs didn't make a trade with the magnitude of other swaps this week. Here's Burke on the trade scuttlebutt, his acquisition of John-Michael Liles from the Colorado Avalanche, the hiring of Rick Dudley and their picks.
The Leafs traded their 30th & 39th picks to Anaheim for the 22nd pick and selected USHL's Tyler Biggs. They also selected the OHL's Stuart Percy shortly afterward with their 25th pick. Liles was acquired for a second-round pick in the 2012 Entry Draft that came over from the Boston Bruins in the Tomas Kaberle deal.
