At first glance, we weren't sure what the hysteria was over this Linus Omark shootout goal in the Edmonton Oilers' 2-1 victory over the Nashville Predators. Then again, we've all been spoiled by previous moments of Omarkian magic.
But watch the replay of this attempt, and try not to let your jaw hit the floor: The change in speed and the perfect placement of the puck to the far post are extraordinary.
Via Dan Tencer, the quote of the night on Omark from Oilers goalie Martin Gerber: "He's a sneaky bastard."
No word if Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne thought the move was classy enough for a rookie and/or respectful of the League ...
UPDATE: Color Rinne unimpressed with the goal, via the Edmonton Journal:
"He comes with a lot of speed and makes you back off, but I don't think he did anything special," said Rinne after the Predators' record fell to 6-4 in shootouts. "He made a nice move, but I thought he fanned on the shot. He was trying to go upstairs and fanned on it and I was leaning a little bit."
So for those in the comments claiming he fanned on the chance, there you go.
